On about 29500 m² many interesting and partly originating from the time of origin woody trees are currently shown about 120 different rose varieties and rose species. In his plans for the rose garden in the 1930s, the then Stadtgartendirektor Balke the idea of a flood-prone waterfront so that this "Königsufer" with its special gardens could be a counterpart to the built up to the river bank Old Town Elbseite.
The "Königsufer" is considered the most important urban development measure of the 1930s in Dresden.
