The 2.5 hectare complex was created in 1890 as »Westendpark«. The property was provided free of charge by the Bienert brothers. Like other historic parks, the Fichtepark made several stages of development. In parts of the plant there were significant interventions, which had to be eliminated according to the original condition.
The biggest encroachment was the creation of the free round-square in front of the Fichten Tower in the years 1939 to 1941, which was built according to national-socialist philosophy. In the park, important spatial structures were destroyed. The basis for the restoration is the monument preservation objective, which was developed on behalf of the Green Space Office.
In 1994, the Regional Council of Dresden granted the historic preservation permit and in the same year issued preservation grants amounting to 153 TDM. In total, more than one million DM were built in 4 phases, with the largest financial share provided by the City of Dresden.
