On the north side of the military-used square was built in the spring of 1870 a barracks for the 108th Royal Saxon Rifle Regiment "Prince George". The construction had become necessary because the regiment was relocated from Leipzig to Dresden. The barracks building on Alaunplatz was in time before the construction of the military facilities in the Albertstadt north. The barracks were destroyed in 1945 and then demolished in 1954. The square was redesigned in 1960 as a green area, so it is also called "Alum Park". From 1955 to 1990, he was called "Platz der Thälmannpioniere". After that he was named back in Alaunplatz. On April 25, 2013, the Alum Park was extended to the 14,400 square meter area of the west adjacent "Russian sports field".
