Aplerbeck: The former residential building of RODENBERG was built in Dortmund-Aplerbeck originally from a muddy medieval castle on the banks of the Emacher River and was already documented in 1290
House of Rudenburg
The RODENBERG house is centrally located in Aplerbeck.
Between 1688 and 1698 Johann Dietrich VOD RODENBERG undertook extensive renovations and rebuilt the castle to become a Baroque castle. In this process, the Billy building, which still exists with trees and gardens, is still being built, and it is still possible to identify a few remains of it until today.
The oldest and most famous representation of the house RODENBERG and its territory is a map of 1801 by the Visser man.
Like many aristocratic dwellings in the Dortmund area, the RODENBERG house was designed as a fortified complex and therefore completely surrounded by water. In keeping with the simple official language of the Renaissance, the garden parts were shaped as square areas almost outside the trees and surrounded by stone walls. In the middle of the eastern park or even the main there was a round pool of water and the edge of the wing.
To its north, the patio joined fruit trees in rows. The small square in the south, also almost square, was surrounded by stone walls and equipped with the same simple fork, surrounded by force, also called the "water kindergarten".
This was decorated with floral borders and long-standing botanical gardens, while other parts of the garden - the function of the manor according to them - were probably served mainly as vegetables or fruit.
As is known, the complex was not inhabited since the end of the eighteenth century and was already in fairly poor condition at the end of the century. After only a few years (around 1810) the palace collapsed and was not rebuilt. In the mid-19th century, the owners of the area sold most of the land, and the demand for rapidly growing industrial area increased.
In 1985, the Alvensleben family, which had received a donation 40 years ago, was sold to the city of Dortmund. Until 1996 the restored Billy Building was restored and the remaining garden. Today, there are classrooms in the community college and a restaurant in the building.
From previous parks, only greenery and surrounding trees are preserved and the house is a pool and remains of the wall surrounding the main garden. Today, the park area is a general green area in the center of Aplerbeck district.
