Westfalenpark Dortmund was opened for the first of three federal gardening offers (1959, 1969, 1991). On the old Kaiser-Wilhelm-Hains land, Buschmühlenpark, landfills and custom gardens, a park was established, and its center, 220 meters, was the tallest German building, the Florian Tower.
Located on 70 hectares, the park is one of Europe's largest indoor parks and serves as a popular leisure and leisure destination in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is home to the German Rosarium, which offers more than 3,000 different types of roses to its visitors, and is the venue for many concerts and regular events, such as the Juicy Beats Festival or the Festival of Lights. In addition, there is a final march to the traditional May Day demonstration of DGB taking place there. Particularly popular are concerts on the lake as well as the Kabila Festival and second-hand goods markets. Many events take place under the canopy in the middle of the park. The 80s or the Ibiza parties attracted crowds of more than 1,000 visitors.
Westfalen Park Park extended to the 10-hectare Federal Garden Euroflor 1969. Rosarium was created, and in its heart is Water Water, a water-changing basin on a regular basis.
The umbrella designed by architect Gunter Bonish in 1969 is a pilot building to build a self-support roof. After proving the feasibility of such a ceiling, the construction of the Munich Olympic Stadium followed.
In the garden you also find a home for nature protection. At the time of the federal presentation of horticulture in 1991, 2.5% of the park's total area was devoted to nature conservation. This area is an "island to save volunteers" in the middle of the park. AGARD (AG Amphibian and Reptile Protection in Dortmund) sponsors this nature conservation island as a representative of conservationists specializing in the conservation of the environment. School classes, kindergartens and other groups of all ages (from the age of 5) are available to explore nature in and around the Conservation Center.
Westfalenpark is located on the northern slope of Emscher and follows a gentle cliff topography of natural geography. The river itself forms the southern boundary of the park.
In the southern part of the Montazah region, the mine was a collection of the Amoch Collection, which was established in 1768. There has been since 21 February 1816, the first steam engine in Dortmund works. It pumped the mine water from a depth of about 25 meters and then enabled the civil engineering of solid coal. During the extension of the underground sewerage network as part of the Emscher reconstruction project in the early 1990s, part of the tunnels, ancient corridors and photographic documentation were cut. This documentary was made available to the public at the renovated Christine Göpelschacht in Westfalenpark as an exhibition.
In 2007, work was undertaken on the extensive redesign of parking, which is now completed. Westfalenpark is participating in the research project "Sustainable City Gardens" under the title Florian's Garden.
The Westfalenpark Dortmund also houses the German Cookbook Museum, a nostalgic puppet theater alongside Ballettzentrum Westfalen (formerly RWE Solar Energy Forum).
Many playgrounds, including a large children's adventure playground, bowling alley, outdoor chess, theme parks, an exploratory link, Kneipp facilities, boat and carriage rentals, and a large game arc complement recreational activities at the Westfalenpark for youth and adults. In the summer of 2006, a small football field with an artificial turf and 100 seats were opened.
The Chairlift of the Westfalenpark is two training courses run in 1959 that beat a height of 23 meters and can carry 720 passengers per hour.
The Lantern Festival has been held since 1959 in the summer and offers fireworks and entertainment to tens of thousands of visitors. From November to the beginning of January, the Westfalenpark Stadium has been lit every year since 2006 as part of the Winter Lights campaign.
