The design for the Grasbrookpark comes from the architect's office EMBT Arquitectes Associats from Barcelona, which is responsible for the entire open space in the western HafenCity and has already designed the Sandtorpark. However, the original concept - a maritime, urban space with few trees - has been greatly redesigned to accommodate the changing needs of the residents.
The residents of the park have been actively involved in the planning of the designs. For this purpose, HafenCity Hamburg GmbH initiated a participation process with children of the Katharinenschule and KITA, their parents and other interested people from the neighborhood. Especially the palm climbing forest with tree house and slide goes back to an idea of the children. The older generation fought hard for a familiar playing field with exercise equipment in the eastern part of the park. The strong fencing of the park by hedges, which hide a fence, goes back to the wishes of the residents.
