  Burbage Common is Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council’s largest countryside site and is located on the edge of Hinckley, within easy reach from both east and west midlands.

  is located on the edge of Hinckley, within easy reach from both East and West Midlands. The site is owned by the Borough Council and is classed as public access land, with its use covered by byelaws. The site has grown to its present size over a number of years.

  This mix of semi-natural woodland and unspoilt grassland
  Burbage Common belongs to the manorial estate and was the poorer pasture where commoners grazed their livestock. The common, together with other grassland areas, is now managed as a hay meadow. The woodlands are probably some of the only remaining fragments of Hinckley forest, which dates back to mediaeval times and they are still managed by the traditional method of coppicing with standards.

  * Orienteering : orienteering is an outdoor adventure sport. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on a unique orienteering map and to decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.
  
  It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace. It's a great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors.
  
  Burbage Common has a permanent orienteering course which was installed with the help and advice of Leicestershire Orienteering Club. There are three different pre-set courses available, an easy route for beginners, a medium route and a hard route for those more experienced. The maps for these courses can be obtained from British Orienteering. We hope you enjoy the course around the ancient woodlands and grasslands of Burbage Common and Woods.
