Sailing :
The reservoir provides good opportunities for sailing, and the family-friendly Ulley Sailing Club welcomes new members. The club holds regular training sessions for those who wish to try sailing without commitment. Youth days are held every third Saturday in the month, when younger members learn new sailing techniques – as well as having lots of fun on the water! The club holds a fun day and summer barbecue once a year, and encourages potential new members to give sailing a try at their annual Open Day in May.
Racing days are typically held on Wednesday evenings and all day Sunday for more experienced members. Saturdays are usually reserved for training, open events and pleasure sailing ;on the water.
The club has its own visitors centre which was officially re-opened in 2016 by HRH Princess Royal following a full refurbishment.
Fishing :
Coarse fishing at Ulley Reservoir is permitted all year round (except Christmas Day) from dawn until dusk, and is particular popular with anglers during the summer months. The 12 hectares of water which makes up the reservoir is up to 40ft deep in places, with some pegs near the bridge being fairly flat and suitable for anglers with disabilities.
Anglers share the water with Ulley Sailing Club, who sail on weekends and Wednesday evenings.
The reservoir has very good stocks of Roach that really come into their own when the weather becomes colder. Waggler or pole tactics with maggot and caster fished beyond the marginal weed will see bites the whole year round.
Feeder fishing can account for good Bream that run to over 4lb with plenty of skimmer fish present. Each winter sees some very nice Perch taken, ranging between 2 and 3lb - chopped worm and caster being the effective bait to target the Stripeys. The water also does have Chub stocked, with summer being the best time to catch one. Consider taking maggot, caster and worm with pinkie and squat as the choice bait during winter months.
