Located at a height of 491 m above sea level, the reserve is unique wetland where many organisms can survive for unfavorable conditions such as freezing. Annual rainfall in the Blue Basin ranges from 350 mm to less than 75 mm Mm from the south and from 180 mm west to less than 50 mm east where the average long-term rainfall is 90 mm per year in the protected area and its climate is warm in summer to cold and low in winter
