Lakes, trees, flower beds and a monument evocative of the First World War
In Coimbra, the initiative came from a Commission of the Coimbra Agency of the League of Combatants of the Great War, chaired by Captain Augusto dos Santos Conceição. The current monument was inaugurated on June 10, 1932. It is a limestone work by Luís Fernandes in partnership with the architect António Varela, representing 4 soldiers, in the uniform of the 1st Great War, in direction and assuming the position of the 4 directions around a column topped by a projectile that supports the city's coat of arms.
