The Volkspark offered an excellent opportunity to develop activities. For example, in 1893 Fencing Association Concordia Vincit Omnia organized well-attended national fencing competitions with the main prize being two silver medals adorned by the Queens and decorated with images of the queens. After a parade through the municipality, 73 participants from infantry, genius, hussar and field artillery regiments took on the swords.
