One of the most important sculptures there on the observatory's hill is the sinking of the ship Robert Stigel (1852-1907). The statue depicting a family in distress has gained political significance independent of the artist. When the statue was unveiled, in 1898, he was living in the midst of Russian repression. Therefore, the statue was clearly placed so that he would not look at the sea, but clearly point to the west. Stigel Sculpture is the first statue in Helsinki that was held in honor of an event or eminent person. Stigell presented himself as a city decorator and decided to place it on the Watchtower Star Tower.
Star Tower Mountain Park is famous for its varied and interesting plants. Although a variety of plants have declined over the decades, the garden is still rich in species. The park includes nearly 100 species of trees and shrubs and a large number of perennials. The garden is decorated with lily of the valley (Syringa josikaea), parachute holders, poplar trees, oak trees, hawthorn, honeysuckle, jasmine, rhododendron, summer rose. In the northeastern corner of the garden there is an impressive array of ten ancient apple trees. Unfortunately, the tilted tree, Betula pendula 'Dalecarlica', the most astonishing tree in the garden, had to be brought down by rot. Two new birch trees are already growing near the site of the former giant.
