The open-air museum opened to the public in 1923. The museum with its 36 hectares is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Sweden and is also special for its emphasis on the biological cultural heritage. Today, Fredriksdal includes the original buildings, the historic parks, the kitchen garden, older public gardens, historic farms, the old city block from central Helsingborg and a botanical garden with Scanian plants and biotopes. Also in this area is the Fredriksdal Theater which was built in 1923 as a Baroque-style hedge theater.
