A park in the Dutch city of Utrecht
The Griftpark is located between the Vogelenbuurt, Tuinwijk and Wittevrouwen, on the spot where since 1860 [1] the Municipal Gas Factory stood, and since 1876 it was the Vaalt. In 1960 the gas factory was closed and demolished. However, the site was heavily contaminated. The park was therefore nicknamed Gifpark in Utrecht. The soil in the area was cleaned up between 1993 and 2002, after which it was redesigned as a city park. The contaminated soil has been packed, so that the poison can no longer cause damage.
