The entire area of 1,415.87 ha is within the administrative boundaries of the city. The main complex covers 1100 ha. The main function of the forest is rest and recreation, there are two nature reserves here, it is also used economically. There is an archaeological site in the forest (Sanditten Castle - Courts). Four PTTK tourist trails run through the forest area (red tourist trail red, yellow tourist trail yellow, black tourist trail black, blue tourist trail blue). Comfortable bicycle paths and three toboggan runs were also marked out. Arbors, benches and forest car parks, as well as educational boards, complementing nature trails, are built in various places.
In the City Forest there are many small, periodic water reservoirs, partly drained. The Łyna and Wadąg rivers flow through the forest.
