It is considered the largest in Italy and among the largest fields in the world

Luigi Vanvitelli designed the elliptical square in the mid-18th century as part of the Caserta Palace project. The square represents the peak from which the five most important streets of the city start. On both sides of the square there are two monument districts where the stables and soldiers used to defend the royal palace were housed.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the square, which first intersects the open roads of vehicle traffic, underwent a long restoration and redevelopment, in order to return it to the original Vanvitelli project. There was a rearrangement of the enormous green area, the lighting system and the planting of many shrubs and trees, while the entire square was restored. Below the square, an underground car park was built, which also serves the nearby railway station and can accommodate up to 900 cars.

At the end of 2009, with the official celebration, the square was opened in its new look that makes it easier.
