Stately 18th-century villa featuring frequent exhibitions & gardens fronting Lake Como.

The villa, whose name is derived, according to undocumented traditions, from the pre-existing presence in the area of two distinctive elm specimens, old and very large, was built in neoclassical style between 1782 and 1787 by the architect Ticino Simone Cantone (Muggio di Mendrisio, Canton of Ticino) Milan, 1736 - 1818), on behalf of Innocenzo Odescalchi, whose wealthy family bought in 1664 part of the origins and land of the S. Maria di Vico monastery called Olmo. The neoclassical inspiration is fully reflected in the facade, whose central body points forward, to five entrance arches surmounted by six ionic columns alternating with medals depicting philosophers. In 1824, with the death of Marquez Odescalchi, the villa moved to the Raimondi family, which hosted famous figures from Italian and European history (Giuseppe Garibaldi, Ferdinand I family in Austria), and then sold in 1883 to the Dukes of Visconti di Modrone, who put his stone coat of arms In the center of the handrail that culminates the building. In 1925 it was sold to the municipality of Como which two years later, on the occasion of the first centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta, he held the Voltiana International Fair. Since then the villa has become a prestigious venue for exhibitions, events and conferences.
