Villa Mirabello is located at the top of Colle Mirabello, which is required for a stunning view of Lake Varese and the Alps.
The building was built at the end of the 17th century, and was rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. Only the chapel of Piata Virgen Adolorata, which was designed in 1767 by Giuseppe Ferratti, the architect of Varese, remains the old building.
In 1843 the villa was renovated in English style and equipped with a large garden. Over time the garden was decorated with exotic plants such as Lebanon rice, Himalayan rice, magnolia, ginko biloba, etc.
The garden surrounding the villa is one body with the Palazzo Estense building, which is why the municipality decided in 1949 to buy it.
Today the villa is home to the Archaeological Museum of Varese. Inside in the two sections, one prehistoric and one Roman, discoveries were found and found in the Varese region and neighboring areas.
