About Park

  • Preview

Park is located on the east side of the Norman Castle - Svevo

Originally, it was a piece of land left in a state of neglect, and then around, around 1700, by Celestin's parents, from the nearby monastery, to a beautiful and suggestive hanging garden descending to several balconies and used as a cleaner, orchard planting medicinal herbs, as evidenced by the presence of a symbol Asclepius.

The property later moved to the Salerno family - apples that enriched it with great taste with many exotic plants and many flower beds, and organized and partly arranged as an Italian garden and part of English, creating a pleasant natural effect with panoramic views from which you can enjoy stunning landscapes.

Boxwood hedges guide tourists through swimming pools, ponds and picturesque green corners. From a series of stairs, you are guided to a charming panoramic walk that connects two towers from the nearby Norman-Swabian Castle: Torre del Salto to Torre del Dello Spiron.

The Salerno-Milli family later donated the Bishop of Uriah, and was left in a state of neglect. In 1982 it was purchased by the municipal administration which brought it back to its original splendor.

In September 2013, during the work of the redevelopment of Parco Montalbano, a series of archaeological remains were discovered, ranging from the Hellenistic period to the Middle Ages. Most of the discoveries are concentrated in three exploration articles carried out in 2015 that allowed us to document the existence of at least three medieval residential and productive structures (in one of the houses found, in fact, highlighted. Remains of a useful mill for processing agricultural products ), A cemetery (which returned the remains of dozens of people who probably lived between the tenth and eleventh centuries after Christ, as well as the remains of numerous skeletons attributed to dead children a few months after life).
