It is the first university botanical garden in the world

    Botanical Garden
It was founded in 1543 by the naturalist, physician and botanist Luca Gini (1490-1556).
Originally built on the banks of the River Arno, it was relocated to its present location in 1591 and gradually expanded to the present 3-hectare stretch. It features plants from 5 continents: succulents of African and American deserts. Aromatic plants of the Mediterranean; Tuscan marsh species. Many old trees and many more.

    Botanical Museum
The heir of the ancient exhibition, created by the Duke of Tuscany Ferdinando I de 'Medici in 1591, still retains the gallery, which consists of portraits of illustrious 17th-century botanists, a huge entrance gate to the exhibition and a "Studiolo" of the seeds of the botanical garden seeds. It also includes things related to the teaching of university botany from the late 18th century. Some are real works of art, such as plant models of wax, plaster and aquatic educational tables (19th century). Other collections include in vitro plant samples, xiloteca, educational models, plant tools and old collections. Finally, the museum preserves herbs.
