In 1857, with the assistance of the municipality, 2 hectares of land were purchased and one of the best landscape architects in Paris, Mr Le Breton, came to draw the plan of the Jardin des Plantes.
On June 16, 1861, Marshal Niel, commander of the 6th Army Corps, and Mr. Prax Paris, Mayor of Montauban, inaugurate this garden in which the Montalbanais are still strolling.
