The Cava Park, dedicated to Marecchia fossil deposits, was opened with the contribution of the Emilia Romagna region and the province of Rimini.
Its location is very important for a dual study: on the one hand, it has allowed the restoration of vacant quarry activity from an environmental point of view; on the other hand, its location, next to the fossil deposit, gives it a very important role.
Since the 1970s, Professor Petro Zangiri, a researcher in our territory, has pointed to the presence of fossils in the Marecia River. Later, Stefano Sabatini, an archaeologist enthusiast, identified the existence of these fossil deposits. Until then no studies were carried out on the characteristics of the tank. In 1981 began the first exploration campaign conducted with scientific standards by the professor. Lorenzo Sorpini, director of the Civil Museum of Natural History in Verona at the time, where most of the excavations from the excavations are preserved.
