A scientific research site devoted to botany and acclimatization

In Cap d'Antibes, Villa Thuret is a scientific research site devoted to botany and acclimatization, since 1857. Created by Gustave Thuret, botanist and algologist, it was the first French research laboratory operating on private funds. Gustave Thuret undertakes systematic tests of acclimatization of exotic plants, in collaboration with the Museum of Paris and with the assistance of Edouard Bornet. His work is continued by his successors, Charles Naudin and Georges Poirault. In addition to producing past and current scientific results, the introduction of exotic species has contributed to the creation of the Côte d'Azur landscape and the growth of Mediterranean horticulture.
