Parco di Galceti is located in the northern part of the city, at the foot of the mountain of Monte-Ferrató, with its eight-hectare surface, surrounded by a protected area of six hundred, the largest stretch of green in Prato.
This large natural area, documented in ancient texts since 1045 by the name of Calcito, extends along the course of Bardina and is part of an important prehistoric inhabited area, as evidenced by the results of ancient fishing tools and protrusions of red jasper used to produce tools.
The park consists mainly of a pine forest of marine pine and is crossed by a dense network of trails that allow you to cross it completely, allowing the opportunity to observe many existing plant and animal species. Among the animals there are: Falcons, Heron, Peacock, Deer, Deer deer, Deer deer and Wild boar. There are also many species of migratory and migratory birds that have made this area a point of reference for its stages. One of these things is certainly a charming colony of the gray heron who, several years ago, chose the park to winter.
Interestingly there are two ponds with an oasis function for resting and nesting aquatic animals, such as swan and molard.
Within the forest, visitors can observe, in addition to free wildlife samples, as well as some in containers or birds including monkeys, birds and snakes, under the auspices and management of the Center for Natural Sciences with a view to rehabilitation and reintegration in their natural environment
The park is therefore a real natural haven for peace just outside the city, where you can immerse yourself completely in nature and connect with local wildlife. The park can be visited and very popular with schools coming from all regions of Italy.
