About Park

Discover the animals in the heart of the Citadel of Besançon

About 550 vertebrates (60 species of mammals and birds) currently occupy a quarter of the Citadel. This zoological and scientific space allows little by little to federate and complete in a coherent way the activities of the Museum, an establishment already considered as one of the most original of France by the presentation of very varied living collections.

Resolutely educational, the zoo focuses on the preservation and reproduction of endangered animal species. It is divided into 3 major sectors. Thus, the presented species are selected largely according to their status of threat and conservation, but also for the interest of their social behaviors. You can even find two species of macropods in Australia, red kangaroos and rock wallabies. The Museum of Besançon was also the first European park to host this rare species of wallabies in 2009!
