Located in the southeast of the city, between the San Polo and Pavalora neighborhoods, it now features two artificial basins, pedestrian paths and green areas.
The first part of the park, equivalent to 36 hectares, was opened on 28 April 2018, while the second part was opened from 33 hectares to the public on 3 June 2018.
The total project includes the expansion of the park to 200 hectares.
Date and project
During the 1960s, agricultural areas in the south-eastern part of the city were gradually converted into pits by private landowners. By the early 1970s, due to the lack of a general plan for the excavation, the quarry area was expanded to include about 1 million square meters and about 60 sites.
The first hypotheses related to the transformation of the entire area into a public park were proposed in 1976 by the Commissioner of Town Planning of the municipality of Brescia, Luigi Bazoli, at the request of the Buvalora Provincial Council.
However only between 2012 and 2014, the municipality of Brescia officially launched the road to restore areas, where it developed a project to build the park. On July 28, 2016, the first agreement was signed between the municipality of Brescia and one of the owners of quarries who approved the acquisition of the General Authority for the area of 544 thousand square meters, and on 30 December 2016, the municipality of Brescia approved an intervention plan amounting to 1,363,000 euros to restore natural areas.
