The Romans, known as the Betis River, settled in Hispales (Seville) in the second century BC, making it an important port of Nahariya. By the first century BC, the city of Hessebalis was walled with shipyards to build long boats for transporting wheat. In the first century AD, Hispalis was home to entire swarms. Ships that sailed to Rome in various products: minerals, salt, fish, etc. During the Arab rule between 712 and 1248, the Moroccans left a stone platform and Torre del Oro (Gold Tower) to strengthen the defenses of the port.
