From the 19th century, Spanish cities decided to overcome or demolish city walls to improve road communications. This improvement in neighborhood communication was known as "widening". 2 The road leading to the walled Old Town was a series of roads known as the Historical Tour. Since the early 20th century, there have been several projects to try to unify the neighborhood of Santa Cruz (intramuros) with Ronda.
At the beginning of the 20th century, King Alfonso XIII renounced the land where the Morillo Gardens are currently located in the city council of Seville. In the area there were pieces of wall and garden wall of Retiro. In 1911, some of these pieces and the wall were demolished to create a green zone that continued in the southeast of the Santa Cruz neighborhood with a historic tour.
