Is a magnificent archaeological garden in Rome

In the eastern suburbs of Rome, in the municipality's fifth district, south of the homogeneous neighborhood.

It is bordered to the west by De Sentosil, to the north by Castellina, to the east by Viale Tugliati, to the south by Papieria, to the military headquarters of the Air Force Air Command and to the Joint Operational Defense Command of the Ministry of Defense.

    Date
It stands on a plateau containing many archaeological remains, to witness the region's repeated history since the 6th century BC, as well as two deposits, one republican and one cultural. The three Roman villas in Bessina, Dili Terme and Ed de Loros (in Latin de la Aluri) Excavations conducted in the late twentieth century. The latter is of particular importance because it is listed in a large imperial estate, which was designated at the residence of Flanders, as the residence of the Empress Elena, named after its size, Centum Silay, from which the names of the present geographical locations were derived. After the donation of the property to the church, the Subaugusta Suburbicaria parish was founded here.

    Air view of the park
At the end of the 19th century, the fortress of Castellina was built. At the beginning of the 20th century, the remaining area was used as the first Italian airport, which was officially launched on April 15, 1909 when Wilbur Wright came to give a series of flyers, named after the pilot Francesco Baracca. Once the use of aviation has ceased, the area has been the subject of major urban projects since the formulation of the 1962 City Plan, which was envisaged within the Eastern Administration, and for this reason was sold by the State Property Office to the Municipality of Rome.

The former airport runway inside the park
Subsequently, the failure to implement the SDO and the development of the entire historic archaeological registry area by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, led to the transformation of the municipality into an archaeological area, as well as to offset the shortage of green areas of densely populated nearby areas. However, openness to the public proved to be a problem because of a series of abusive occupations by auto dealerships (still partially present) and sports facilities and two large nomadic camps at Castellino 700 and 900. Finally became open to the public in 2006, Umniah from September 2008 to January 2010, which is currently open to extend nearly 33 hectares. Inside the park there is still a path to the former airport.

In the basement of the park, runs an artificial tunnel about a kilometer long, deserted, part of a kind of metropolitan railway that began during the outbreak; the project was incomplete with the outbreak of World War II.
