He is an institution of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. On an area of about two hectares around 4000 species are cultivated and presented to the visitor. In the greenhouses you can see plants from different vegetation zones, including high mountain plants of Mediterranean mountains in the Alpine House and plants of the Macaronesian Islands in the Canary Islands. There are also greenhouses for succulent plants of deserts and semi-deserts, including numerous cacti. In the field, a spice garden was created with some very old crops. A biological-ecological plant exposes the relationships between the shape of the plant and its environment. Selected plant species are planted according to their family relationships and are intended to familiarize interested parties with the system of plants. In addition, there are plants that represent the native vegetation types, such as a Frühblüherwiese.
