The area is primarily an orchid sanctuary
The area was declared a protected area in 1990. It was maintained for many years by honorary nature protection federation Germany active ones. Currently, the care is provided by a professional company. The care is necessary because the area is no longer grazed today and would quickly fade the open spaces without care and thus also for the orchids no living space would be available.
