Originally the Daberstedter ski jump was part of the historic city fortification. As part of the city expansion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the fortifications were demolished and redesigned. The city park in its present form was created in 1908. From the central station it is accessible via the city parking stairs. On the grounds there is a playground, a pavilion and the fountain with a sculpture ("fountain figure", 1911) by Arthur Lewin-Funcke. In the trees are Amur cork trees and a mulberry tree. Under the city park was during the Second World War, an extensive air raid shelter for rail travelers and residents.
