The special advantage of the Schlossberg is its location between Dreisam and the Rhine Valley, as well as in the historical and eventful past. On a strategically located hilltop the French built a castle under the famous Fuban building from 1679 onwards. After the final withdrawal of the French in 1745, the entire factory was blown up. It is still possible to see the factory plan today and protect it as a memorial.
Since the 19th century, Kurhaus Schlossberg has set himself the goal of reviving the historic past of Schlossberg. In part, the remains of the plant were released again. The main castle in Schlossberg is equipped with upper information boards.
Schlossberg does not call like any other park in Freiburg for hiking. On the hills along the branching roads system, there are many views that provide great views of both the Black Forest and the entire city of Freiburg. From the city park, the cable car leads to the "Dattler" restaurant. From here, a steep, serpentine path falls into the 35-meter mountain tower in 2002.
Only a small part of Schlossberg (in front of Schlossberg) is like a park. The majority (about 60%) have a forest character, interspersed with clearing and meadows lined with trees.
