In 1961, the city of Aachen acquired the entire area and decided to demolish the barracks and create new living space and create a park there. Of the "Yellow Barracks" only eight columns remained in the Doric style, which today mark the entrance to the park. Two residential towers were built in 1964, the rest of the terrain was transformed into an extensive meadow, garden and playground facilities. The ceremonial opening and handing over of the park to the citizens took place on 17 September 1966.
