An excellent example of the horticultural art of the late 19th century
In the lower part of the narrow enclosure, the enclosures of the Chapel Road plots form a picturesque setting. The retaining walls, built of rubble and often blinded with bricks, create a natural atmosphere. In keeping with the tradition of the Parkstaffages, as can also be found in the spa gardens, you pass the Fresenius monument, which is slightly out of line of sight at the southern entrance. The work of the Berlin sculptor Karl Reinert, unveiled in 1904, honors the chemist Professor Dr. Carl Remigius Fresenius (1818-1897), who opened his chemical laboratory in Kapellenstraße in 1848 and became known far beyond the borders of Nassau. From 1891 Fresenius acted as head of the Wiesbaden city council.
