It offers refuge to many endangered bird species and is also a popular destination for the people of Münster
The northwestern half is the actual nature reserve, which is only partially open to the public. But there are some observation huts that allow trouble-free observations. At about 2.33 km² are mainly water and mud surfaces, reeds and smaller wet grassland sections. The original plant of the Rieselfelder can still be seen here many times, the approximately 100 m × 100 m large polders are preserved here for the most part. Meanwhile, however, many have been combined to form larger tracts of land in order to provide more tranquility, especially with birds passing by.
