The FFH area "Eastern Teutoburg Forest" includes sections of the Teutoburg Forest, which are characterized in particular by extensive lime-beech forests of various characteristics, as well as canary beech forests and calcareous grasslands. These beech forest companies, which are very familiar to East Westphalia, are of particular importance from the overall perspective of Europe. North Rhine-Westphalia is the centerpiece of the Central European Buchenwald companies.
