In 1854, the most modern spinning mill in Europe was built at this point. In the early 1970s, production ran out; The demolition, for the construction of an inner-city crossroads, was decided. A citizens' initiative prevented the demolition: It was a museum park in conjunction with facilities of the People's College.
Particularly noteworthy is the collection of arts and crafts of the Foundation Huelsmann, which is housed in the building of the former director's villa.
Due to preserved plan documents, the director's garden could be largely restored true to the original. Path, pond and fountain remind of the past. The southern part of the park is dedicated to Rochdale, the English sister city of Bielefeld.
