The origins of the Ottomar-von-Reden-Park in Gehrden date back to the year 1590. As Gutspark the park was created in its current structure around 1780 by Friedrich-Otto von Reden. About 50 years ago, Ottomar von Reden (1888-1959), mayor of Gehrden, bequeathed the more than three hectare park to the district of Hannover as a foundation. Today, parts of the park, with its sometimes centuries-old woodland heritage listed. In 2007, the project office of the Gartenregion Hannover had a redevelopment and utilization concept worked out, which also provides for the careful reconstruction of the garden monument and - above all - should ensure its long-term maintenance.
The stock of valuable, mostly old solitary trees in the Ottomar-von-Reden-Park is to be gradually expanded again to an "arboretum", a collection of rare trees and shrubs. This is one of the development goals for the former Gutspark in Gehrden.
